    Oh wow, right into this one next, huh? Good luck! Skating Ring was a really fun one. Also, I'm pretty sure what you did here was an alternate solution. The one I found was pretty different, so I'll leave it vague in case you want to figure it out yourself, but it involved a lot more sliding around the space of the puzzle before attacking the eye directly. And then you went straight into Cross the Finish Line. This was my huge outlier puzzle in terms of time spent, at 3 and a half hours (though a couple other puzzles got up to about an hour). I'm not sure exactly how it got quite that high, might have left the game running unpaused once or twice, but this one definitely gave me enough trouble I'd believe it was all actually spent working on it. The required situation just kept feeling like a complete impossibility no matter what I tried, until I literally stumbled into the key move. Oh, I never saw sleepy Leaf! Either because it hasn't been fully implemented yet or because I have a habit of making idle inputs in time with the music while thinking. That's a fun touch. Very much enjoying watching you go through the same varieties of realization I made while working on this, like using the monster block to send bugs further south. Ultimately, I failed to quite make that solution path work out and instead found an alternate and far simpler way to stop the block in that row, but yours was so much prettier. Great work!

      the monster block IS ALIVE ... it will kill things that are on top of it, etc etc etc. Even the doors detect that it is a threat that needs to be handled before they will open

      Sometimes! I've gone back and forth across different projects, weighing the pros and cons of both. Leaf's Odyssey doesn't need anything other than integers for its logic, but in other game projects I've worked on where arbitrary fractions are involved, I do try to stick to fixed point for anything involved in game logic. Floating point numbers are fine for graphics, but last time I used them as part of gameplay-affecting calculations, I got different results across different platforms, meaning that a sequence of inputs recorded on one computer would sometimes desync with played back on another.

      @@adiener I wonder what's the cause of the desync, fast FP math optimization or somehow non-IEEE-754 compliant device or something else? Celeste uses FP math everywhere and it leads to weird quirks with TASes but AFAIK it should be consistent across platforms.

    This level is pretty funny in general, tho some people can find it finicky and slightly annoying, I'd put it in a group that encapsulates yellow experts pretty well; not the best in the lobby but still pretty good map Kaerra, the mapmaker (and composer of this and other banger themes such as caper cavortion's) does like to make maps with these weird and somewhat polarizing gimmicks And yeah it's also funny how people who full clear it skip like 30% of the rooms so if they come back to silver it they have to learn new rooms they've never seen

      i find this map to be the absolute worst in sj (except for one i really hate in Grandmaster), the mechanic itself is cool but the map just kinda degrades to really awkward tech spam and awkward turnarounds

    ok this is kinda embarassing to admit, but this is actually the expert level I have the most deaths in ( expect the heartside ofc). Granted, there were some levels where I did some *light* cheating on, but like, this level is absolutely hell 😭especially the berries

    Fun fact about this level: The composer is also the mapper! It's also, unfortunately, not one of my favorites. Like you so far (halfway through the video) I'm not a huge fan of how imprecise this level FEELS, even though a more specific kind of precision is what it demands. Also the berries are borderline unfair. It's still a cool level. It's just rough. Edit: 17:00 "Failed Wavedash" spotted! That's an actual thing that people sometimes make you do...I don't remember if they show up in SJ and I'm also not entirely sure that's exactly what you're doing but it's just another example of wacky Celeste tech!

      Also, not sure if you know this, but push blocks can be pushed through closed doors if there is a valid push block floor behind the door. So that push block surrounded by portcullises can be pushed before opening the doors. Just a heads up. :)

    "When I get a second torch" you said, having completely overlooked the one in the south of the clock room =) Interesting decision to make a permanently failable sokoban like that. But I guess the game did warn you to save often. Seems like this zone is mostly finished now. It's such a change to have a straightforward and contained area like this after Final Adventure.

      I overlooked that block room getting stuck, it's being fixed on next patch (sorry, can't notice everything as the author 🙂). The game opens up a lot more once you escape prison. This area is supposed to be straightforward and contained.

    With the room before the boss in Dodongo's Cavern, it's functionally identical to how it plays out in the base game: circle around to reach the higher ledge so you can unbar the door. My bet is that the change from having a switch down below was to prevent the possibility of using one of the new baby dodongos to trigger it without needing to loop around. Also because they wanted one more weird grave rather than the base game block. The misunderstanding about exactly where you learn the Song of Time makes sense, considering how close together events happen here and how the altar in the temple of time has a musical staff on it. I feel like that was a good decision to focus on the dungeons. Replaying the game more or less 100% three times in a row would be a bit much. That final gold skulltula was a very silly hiding spot.

    I wouldn't mind if you used this game's recording schedule for a day or two to instead work on your homework so to speak, if it means a viable way of progressing. This is not a game I'd enjoy playing, but one I'm very much enjoying watching, so I'd rather it continue after a week-long break than a full stop. Though the final decision's on you, of course

    The connected puzzles here were such a fun final challenge! I had a great time with this, and I'm glad to see you did too. Interested to see which one you try next! I finally managed to finish out the last of the custom worlds the other day and had an absolute blast with some of the higher-difficulty puzzles in that final one. Each of them has their own unique feel, though, as expected from works by different creators and with different goals.

    Oh Floating Point, the timings are so weird, the strawberries are brutal (some people said one of them is approaching GM difficulty), and that berry is hidden somewhat unfairly, I can't think how you can discover it on your own.

    Sephiroth is pretty strong when used properly, he's more reactionary than initializing based, scintilla or whatever its called has a really, really strong counter on startup that comes out almost instantly, whenever someone is coming in with melee or basic projectiles it'll eat it or force them to bounce off of you guaranteeing the hit, octoslash is basically a whiff punish, and heartless angel is good for dealing with zones who started an attack.

    Glad you enjoyed it, thank you for playing and for making this great game! Level design is a much stronger suit of mine than puzzle design, to the point that I made up the level geometry first and only then fit puzzles into it. That might be why the exploration is all the more interesting, since I meant for it to be a cohesive and purpose-built world, with puzzles fit into it. I definitely felt a lot of freedom to express myself here, in terms of different visual (and gameplay) themes in the different areas. Looking forward to other custom worlds!

    That rhombus indicator was on your screen the entire time you were trying for that strawberry. :P There is also more room after that skeleton. You have to know what to do and are unlikely to figure out how to proceed without using some extra tools. Also, before I suggest this, you should know that some of the most cracked players in this game use a controller. That said, I would GENTLY suggest maybe considering giving keyboard controls a shot if you're having timing issues for ultras and bunnyhops. I made this switch around intermediate/advanced due to thumb pain and I credit it with allowing me to proceed and get to the point where I can handle a lot of grandmaster stuff. Using your fingertips to jump, dash, and grab is...a gamechanger. So much more precision with the timing. Plus WASD being more precise than a d-pad or stick. Just an idea. A thing to maybe try.

      @@Patricia_Taxxonmy interpretation is just that the standard deviation has shrunk. In order to smooth the harshest edges of sc, sj has also become somewhat less niche of a project. I think its a much better learning tool and is more likely to be fun to more people, but it does make sense to feel some loss. Part of that, for me, is that fewer of the maps in sj are entirely the vision of one person, so its harder to feel connected to the people making them

      There are some charming aspects to SC that are missing in SJ that I totally understand missing, but saying that it's "secretly" better is a bit snooty don't you think? Especially since that is generally the less popular opinion. It implies a sort of superiority

    I hope they fix the steam workshop installation. Excited for another good LoG2 mod! The Guardians and Last Adventure are some of my favorite games ever. :)

    Ooh, more Grimrock! Well this was a fun start to things. Definitely a bit of a silly tone to this one, even moreso than is standard for Grimrock. I wonder how much things will open up once you get out of here, or if it will be more of a linear adventure in line with Grimrock 1?
